Do warts grow before they are separated from the skin?

I had this wart for years and just decided to use an anti wart liquid on it. Well I started some time last week and yesterday noticed there was some bleeding. Because of the bleeding, I used witch hazel to stop it. This morning, I noticed this huge scab like thing on the tip of it and it’s bigger now. Is the wart suppose to get more before it comes off or am I the only one with this problem? It was a different color from what it was and is a dark red and the crust is slightly brown. Should I keep using the liquid wart remover? I can not see a doctor because no insurance problems.
