what causes genital warts?
what is the cause of genital warts and never end? or is it something that should be treated indefinitely? if podophyllin (Sp?) The treatment is used which are common side effects of this? can it burn because of the special treatment to inflammation for several days?
I copied this straight out of Wikepedia. Hope it helps. Treatment of genital warts may disappear without treatment, but sometimes eventually develop a fleshy, small raised growth. There is no way to predict whether they will develop or disappear. Depending on the size and location of the wart, and other factors, your doctor may treat several ways. * Imiquimod (Aldara) cream of the immune response, applied to the affected area * A 20% solution podophyllin anti-mitotic, applied to the affected area and later washed * A 0.5% podofilox solution, applied to the affected area, but do not wash * 5% of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) cream * trichloroacetic acid (TCA) Pulsed Dye Laser * * * Liquid nitrogen cryosurgery electric cautery or laser * * sinecatechins Condylox (Veregen) also Polyphenon E: ointment is more of green tea extract catechins, and other components. Mode of action is undetermined. [5] It is approved by the FDA, but very expensive. Podophyllin and podofilox should not be used during pregnancy because they are absorbed through the skin and can cause congenital malformations in the fetus. 5-fluorouracil cream should not be used while trying to become pregnant or if the person taking the drug could be pregnant. Small warts can be removed by freezing (cryosurgery), burning (electrocautery) or laser treatment. Surgery is sometimes used to remove warts that have not responded to other major treatments. Some doctors inject the antiviral drug interferon-alpha directly into the warts, to treat warts that have returned after removal by traditional means. The drug is expensive and does not reduce not the rate that the warts return. [Citation needed] Although treatments can eliminate the warts, they do not remove the HPV, so warts can recur after treatment. Traditional theories postulated that the virus remained in the body for a lifetime. However, further studies using techniques sensitive DNA showed that with an immunological response of the virus may be disabled or removed to levels below what that PCR tests can measure. [2] According to the Centers for Disease Control report on HPV to Congress in 2004, studies have shown that 70% of new HPV infections clear in one year and as much as 91% clear within two years. The median duration of new infections is typically eight months. The progressive development of a system effective immune response is thought to be the likely mechanism for HPV DNA clearance. The immune status determines the chances of eliminating the virus completely and may be affected by factors such as HIV infection, certain medications, stress or disease [3].
