Dealing With Skin Tags On Dogs
Skin tags are quite a common problem. Most of us are used to hearing about skin tags on our own bodies but they can actually develop on those of our little furry friends as well. Skin tags on dogs are just as common a problem and most owners are not sure how to approach this situation. Skin tags are actually small tumors but they are benign so they are not considered as being dangerous.
Even so, some owners either do not like looking at the skin tag or worry that it is causing a problem for their dog and want to have it removed. Especially if you notice them around the ears you want to be cautious because this is where dogs tend to be most affected by diseases. You could tie a string around the skin tag tightly and then pull it off. One of the easiest ways to remove a skin tag involves nothing more than a piece of string.
Just make sure that you get the entire skin tag so there is not a little piece left hanging there which will be too difficult to remove with a string. You can apply a numbing agent to the skin around the tag if you are worried about causing pain to your dog. Small scissors can be used to cut the skin tag right off, but make sure you use a proper disinfectant on them first to avoid causing an infection. That includes certain home remedies such as using apple cider vinegar and applying it directly onto the skin tag.
That includes apple cider vinegar for one, which can be applied onto a skin tag with a Q-tip or a finger. You simply apply the grated or mashed potato onto the skin tag and then cover the area with a bandage. Keep it covered for about six days and then when you remove it the skin tag should come right off because the potato decomposes and causes the skin tag to disintegrate and fall off. If you would rather have a professional remove the skin tags for you, there is always the option of brining the dog into the vet.
They have access to much quicker, more advanced methods of removing skin tags. This way you can have someone else get the job done for you and they may even use an anesthesia just to make sure the dog is in no pain. They use liquid nitrogen directly onto the skin tag which freezes and kills it on contact and it should fall right off. The most important thing is that the dog is healthy and happy.
