Dermatology unnecessary procedure?
I am twenty-something male resident of Florida with an average amount of sunshine on my life and no family history of skin cancer. I recently went to a dermatologist to check on an abnormal nevus / mol. The doctor came and insisted on doing a routine "check" of my body as I was new to the practice. It was in the room for about 2 minutes, I was never asked to even turn around, and did a biopsy on a nevus independent. It hurts (as expected) and Today I received a call back saying that the results showed the nevus was not cancerous, but they wanted to do minor surgery to remove the skin around it that could become cancerous. I found the statement "could become cancerous" a causally ambiguos little. I'm not rocket scientist, but I'd rather not go through a painful surgery and scars if it was useless. Someone Has an opinion on this type of procedure? It is common? Should I find a new doctor? The whole looks like clown shoes to me. Help!
