Herpes is an infection of herpes simplex virus (HSV). For many people, it causes blisters and painful sores on the mouth or genitalia (as where you get it) that come and go. For others, there will be no symptoms at all. It is not fatal, do not induce infertility or lead to other diseases, and (except for some special cases such as infants or persons who are immunosuppressed) causes no problems at all – except for some wounds from time to time. Genital warts are an infection of human papillomavirus (HPV). I know less about HPV, but be aware that certain strains lead to cancer – especially cancer of the cervix. I also know that some strains of HPV seem to pass over time (that is, your body will eventually be cured by them). Other strains may cause warts – which can lead to cancer. Condoms do not protect against one or the other. The Both can be spread when symptoms are not present. Both are extremely common. So yes, there is a difference. I hope this helps.
