Just read this-std testing..?
Statistics show that @ 20% of adults in the US have the virus for genital herpes, but as many as 90% of them don’t even know it. This is because most people have mild, infrequent, or even NO symptoms. Also, most doctors do NOT test you for herpes when they are testing you for other STDs unless you specifically request a herpes blood test.
Just curious, since I know there are a ton of people unaware of this and the fact that a ton of men in particular have no idea that they can’t be tested for HPV-genital warts, wondering how many people out there make sure of getting specifically a genital herpes test when getting tested for stds?
Unfortunately, physicians and clinics do not tell folks that the standard STD test does NOT include herpes testing. Why? Because they don’t consider it a big whoop–and because they don’t have a magic bullet to make it all better.
And yet herpes can be emotionally and physically devastating to those who contract it. Even worse, those who do NOT know they have it continue to innocently spread the disease because they never knew they were infected in the first place and the medical establishment is so cavalier about the disease as well. That is, they are cavalier until you turn up in their office and they treat you like a leper!
It is a medical travesty. And one that has totally escaped the spotlight that should be shed on this disease and the failure of the medical community to become more educated on the subject and to inform patients that their STD testing does NOT include herpes and other STDs unless you specifically request them.
