does a pap smear show if i have hpv or genital warts?

Its crazy because my husband showed me sum bumps he had around his anal. At the time i didnt think anything of it but then i checked on the internet and i looked at pictures of stds. They looked like genital warts. He went to the doctor and sure enough the doctor said they were genital warts. I had gone to get my physical done a week before and the next day i got my results. Everything was clear and my pap result was normal. I told the nurse what my husband had and she just said she would send me information on genital warts.. But shouldn’t she had told me to come in so i can get rechecked for hpv?
this is so confusing. Does this mean he will get cancer later on in life?
they told me to to get a hpv test and a hpv vaccine(will this vaccine protect me from my husband)
