skin cancer mole: What kind of advice is this?
I went to my doctor with a suspicious mole that has grown recently and meets the ABCD criteria, and she just looked at it real quick and said Oh,it’s probably nothing, you know if you’re worried take a picture of it and compare the picture in a month or two. This is bad advice, no?
I went to another doctor last month when I first noticed this suspicious mole and he asked me 3 questions-1. does skin cancer run in your family (i said no) 2. have you ever been out in the sun without suncreen (i said yes-my entire childhood!) 3. have you been monitoring the growth of this mole (i said it just showed up)
then he quickly looked at it and said it’s nothing.
is this bad advice?
Dr’s are trained to access these random spots and moles we all seem to have or develop.
They generally fall into 4 categories, those that we can self access as being harmless, those a Dr can quickly access as being harmless, those that Dr’s access as being slightly suspicious and those Dr’s access as being very worrying.
I wouldn’t be concerned.
