Even if the moles and warts are large part of non-medical importance, you should always exercise common sense. If you think you have to worry about any unusual mark or blemish on your body, then do what is reasonable and get your doctor to have a look.
Let's start with the basics. What are moles and warts?
Moles are not darker pigmented spots on the face or body, and are often regarded as marks of beauty.
Moles are of two kinds: those you have at birth, and those you later.
For example, I have a small mole on the right side of my face under my eyes. I I was born with it, and like most beauty spots such, it has remained the same size, shape and color of my life. It poses no risk to me, and I no reason to care.
Moles that appear later in life can change shape and color. These are the ones you have to follow because they can be the harbinger of something more sinister, such as skin cancer.
Mostly, these late-onset moles are nothing to fear, but still once, use your head and have them examined. Even if it is safe because it is likely it may be uncomfortable for you, and may be worth treatment.
Warts are completely different moles. They are caused by human papillomavirus, or HPV for short.
HPV is found throughout the world are human beings, and is impossible to avoid. It is spread by contact, either directly or indirectly through clothing or other objects shared in the human environment.
They are harmless but can be uncomfortable depending on the location where they are and they can be aesthetically unpleasant.
Warts come in many shapes, sizes and colors. Warts on face or the body can be a little brown or reddish, may be slightly elevated and may be a bit rough in appearance. Warts on the sole of the foot, called Plantar warts tend to be rather flat and rather white looking.
Warts on the genitals are a cause for concern particularly insofar as they are rapidly transmitted through sexual contact. They may also be confused with a more serious sexually transmitted disease, so do not delay not seek treatment if you think you have these.
Warts are very, very common in children, and they usually disappear by themselves without treatment. In adults, they often persist, and may prompt us to take action.
If you have a mole or a wart and want treatment, you have a ton of options available to you.
Moles and warts are both sensitive to therapy laser. As it is relatively quick and is very clean in its results, laser treatment is very popular and is widely available.
Using cold extreme, or cryotherapy, is common to treat warts. Essentially, liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the wart and kill the HPV virus. Done right, the wart dies and falls in a week or two. Plantar warts are often treated this way.
Surgery is also available for the treatment moles and warts, but it is a bit more expensive and difficult. Also, because the surgical treatment of warts and moles is largely a cosmetic problem, your insurer may be unwilling to cover the costs. Proceed with caution, and that all options for your treatment and payment.
Finally, the warts often respond well to the application of salicylic acid, which you can buy at your local pharmacy. This is a very old remedy, and has a good record. The disadvantage is that it can take weeks for you to see more. That said, it's cheap and readily available.
