Here is an overview of warts WebMD: Warts http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/tc/warts-and-plantar-warts-topic-overview and plantar warts – Topic Overview is about it for you? This section contains information about warts on any part of the body except genitals. For more information about warts on the genitals, see the topic Genital Warts. What are warts and what causes them? A wart is a skin growth without danger caused by certain types of virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). There are over 100 types of HPV known. HPV infects the layer top of the skin, usually entering the body in an area of broken skin. The virus causes the top layer of skin to grow rapidly, forming a wart. Most warts disappear on their own within months or years. Warts can grow anywhere on the body. They are more common in children and young adults. There are five kinds of warts. They look different and form on different body parts. * Common warts develop most often on the hands, but they can be anywhere on the body. They are rough, shaped like a dome, and gray-brown. * Warts develop on the plantar soles. They look like hard, thick patches of skin with black spots. Plantar warts may cause pain when you walk, and you can feel like walking on a pebble. * Flat warts usually develop on the face, arms or legs. They are small (usually smaller than the eraser at the tip of a pencil), have flat tops and can be pink yellow, brown, or light. * Filiform warts usually grow around the mouth, nose or beard. They are the same color as your skin and have growths that look like son came out of them. * Warts periungual grow under and around the toenails and fingernails. They look like rough bumps with an uneven surface and border. They can affect nail growth. How are warts spread? Warts are easily spread by direct contact with human papillomavirus. You can infect again by pressing the wart and then another part of your body. You can infect another person by sharing towels, razors or other personal items. After contact with HPV, it may take 2 to 9 months of slow growth beneath the skin before you notice a wart. It is unlikely that you will get a wart every time you enter into contact with HPV. Some people are more likely to get warts than others. What are the symptoms? Warts are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes. A wart may be a bump with a rough surface, or it may be flat and smooth. Tiny blood vessels grow in the heart the wart to supply it with blood. In both common warts and plantar, these blood vessels may look like dark dots in the center of the wart. In most cases, the skin lines and creases over the wart is distorted. And here's what WebMD says about them spread: Tips to prevent human papillomavirus * Avoid touching warts on yourself or others. * Do not share razors, towels, socks, shoes or with another person. Someone with no visible warts may still be carrying the virus. * Avoid walking barefoot on warm, moist surfaces where the wart virus may be alive. Wear shower shoes when using public showers, locker rooms, pool or. * Keep your feet dry. If your feet sweat a lot, wear socks that absorb moisture or bit of skin. * Avoid irritating the soles of your feet. Warts grow more easily if your skin has been injured or broken in some way. Tips to prevent the spread of warts warts * Keep covered with a bandage or tape athletic. * Do not bite your nails or cuticles, as this may spread warts from one finger to another.
