Skin cancer moles
Moles are normal benign skin growths that may occur in anyone’s body and face. There are various types of moles of various colors, shapes and sizes. However there are also some cancerous moles you have to be careful about.
You needn’t worry about moles that exist from birth or start during the first 20 years of your life are safe. It is the moles that develop after you are 40 which may be skin cancer moles. Even changes in existing moles in terms of size, color and shape, and if the mole starts itching or bleeding, it may indicate malignant moles.
It is normal for moles to change during puberty and in pregnant women because of hormonal changes. Sometimes, sun burn can also lead to changes in moles and in the growth of new moles. It is these moles that sometimes develop into skin cancer moles.
How to distinguish malignant moles
You can distinguish malignant moles from benign ones with regular checkup of moles, and their development in the body. You have to check the symmetry of the mole, which is, if both halves are similar to each other.
Skin cancer moles tend to have a blurred, ragged or irregular edge and it is of a different color. It may exist as shades of black, blue, red, brown or white.
You will find that malignant moles have a diameter that unequally divides the mole into two unequal halves. These moles also have an elevated look where they look lifted from the skin.
Probable places to look for skin cancer moles
It is interesting to note that there are some places on the body where you will most likely find malignant moles. They are predominantly seen in the head and neck area and leg region of women, and in the trunk of women. There is also a high chance of their appearing in the arm of both men and women.
Cancerous moles are not usually found much in the eye. However if you find such a mole growing outside the eye, you will notice a black spot on the iris. Unfortunately, there are no signs to indicate cancerous moles on the inside of the eye. At the most, you may have blurred vision and these moles are best noticed only during an eye specialist’s eye checkup.
How to quickly detect cancerous moles
As skin cancer moles are quickly detected when wet, check for them while bathing. If required, use the help of a mirror to check parts of the body you can’t see. Don’t forget to check between fingers and toes, behind the knee and the groin region.
Note the spots you find moles on your body, and keep checking on them for changes. If moles seem to change, and look cancerous, don’t delay visiting your doctor. While some doctors claim they can tell if a mole is cancerous, a biopsy is a surefire test of finding out if the skin moles is indeed cancerous, and its extent of cancer.
