What is the difference between a tag and a skin mole?

I went to a dermatologist yesterday and conducted a review General of the skin. I have a few moles that I wanted to check out, for good measure from skin cancer in my family. The nurse was examining me was not particularly polite or interested in making me comfortable when she examined me, dismissivily when she said, "thats a skin tag" on a boss who happens to be in a vulnerable area, I do not question. I always had the label of skin moles /, and still believed to be a mole. I read online that the moles are something we are born with, and tags the skin are developed later, usually later in life (I'm 18), so I wonder if it could have been taken. I suppose it really matters because I intend probably to remove, and because moles have the potential to become cancerous. Would she have been wrong, and what exactly is the difference between the two? Thank you.
