Can thread worms cause tummy upsets, itchy eyes & other symptoms?
My 8 year old son gets threadworms on quite a regular basis…every 2/3 months. We treat the whole family with OVEX and follow hygiene guidlines. Whenever he gets worms, he loses his appetite, gets itchy red eyes, diarohhea and tummy ache. A couple of years ago he had infected anal abcesses and reoccurent diarohhea, the doctors thought he may have had Crohns disease, he had a colonoscopy which showed a little inflammation in the colon but not enough to point to Crohns. I’m now wondering whether he has an allergy to threadworms. Also, the skin tags that were left behind by the abcesses tend to swell when he has threadworms. Any help on this one would be appreciated. Thanks
Are you speaking about “Pin worms?” sometimes called “Thread worms?” they come out at night and lay eggs on he anal opening, they cause itching. When the person itches with the bare hands they spread the eggs and parasites to the eyes etc.
You can check at night when the child is asleep, with a flashlight, look for the worms here and use a scotch tape to adhere to the anal opening for a sample for the doctor.
Your child, once treated should not be getting these parasites. There has to be a reason he gets these on a regular basis. Check the environment, the animals, in any, where he plays, there has to be a reason if he’s treated for them in a proper manner.
