The dark and discolored patches of skin you find on your body are skin moles. These moles on skin are sometimes of a different texture than your normal skin, and come with various unique features.
All skin moles come in various sizes, colors and shapes and are usually benign. Some skin moles exist in a person from birth called congenital melanonaevi, which are safe and unobtrusive to the person.
It is only the moles where you find changes in its appearance like bleeding, itching, change in color and growth that need attention. Have your doctor examine them to ensure they are not cancerous.

When you show your mole to your doctor, they will want to know what changes you have noticed in the skin moles. They will also need to know when the changes occurred or took place.
They may also take pictures of the skin moles, and measure them for comparing at a later date. And if they feel that the mole is indeed cancerous, they may ask for a sample to give for testing, which can easily be done instantly.
Basically, there are no reasons for the removal of any skin mole types as some tend to disappear or fall off over time. However some people may get constantly irritated with the location of the mole as they constantly rub them.

Some skin moles are cancerous
There are chances of moles changing with the hormonal changes in the body like during pregnancy or menopause. However though you may think that it is hormonal changes that lead to the change in the mole, it is better to have it examined by your doctor.
Some moles on skin can however be dangerous as they are cancerous moles that develop directly or from an existing mole. These moles are usually a consequence of severe exposure to sunlight, usually for short periods like when you are on a holiday. These types of skin moles are usually located in the skin area that is exposed the most, and which you tend to forget to apply sun cream on, like your nose.
This is why you have to make it a point to constantly observe the condition and appearance of your skin moles, if you have any. Make it a point to use sun cream in hot weather as your mole is especially prone to sunlight.
