Here are seven established facts about genital warts.

1. The Genital warts are very contagious.

Genital warts spread easily from person to person through sexual contact. Papillomavirus (HPV), the virus that causes genital warts, is able to penetrate the skin and mucous membranes by the tiny abrasions in the genital area that develop during sex.

2. Genital warts are incurable.

Once you catch HPV, you can never eliminate it your body. You can treat and remove warts, but it remains dormant in your system. Thus, genital warts may appear again.

3. Genital warts may resurface.

HPV can lie dormant in your body. It may resurface when it is triggered by risk factors such as smoking, stress, excessive consumption of alcohol, immune system deficiencies, changes in fashion of life and, among others. In fact, many people are unaware they have HPV in their system. Many men do have genital warts and their penises still unaware of their presence since they can be very small and hidden. Many women also have genital warts but remain oblivious because they occur internally in many cases. Only 10 percent of genital warts are visible.

4. Genital warts can be treated and get rid of.

There are various treatment options for genital warts removal depending on their size and location. If you see your doctor, he or she may advise you to apply a topical medication or undergo cryosurgery electrocautery (burning), (gel) or laser treatment. Some people also attest to the effectiveness of the herbal preparation to get rid of genital warts.

5. Genital warts can not spread from your genitals to other parts of your body and vice versa.

There are at least 150 types of HPV. The strains that are responsible for genital warts occur only in the genital area. They are spread by direct contact with the skin of a partner infected by vaginal, anal or oral. Infection can occur through contact with a visible genital warts or subclinical infection, meaning contact with surface of the skin without visible genital warts. After sex with an infected person, genital warts can take several weeks to several years to appear.

6. You can do something to prevent the development of genital warts.

Many of Studies have shown that having a healthy immune system helps a lot in preventing genital warts. For those who have had warts genital, physicians need specific supplements that stimulate the immune system like selenium, green tea extract, bioflavins and grapeseed.

7. Genital warts can cause cervical cancer.

About 70 percent of all cases of cervical cancer of the uterus are caused by types 16 and 18 of HPV. HPV causes the outer layer of normal cells of the transformation zone of cervix (TZ) to be replaced by cancer cells. Such a change can be detected early through a Pap test. In fact, 90 percent of deaths from cervical cancer could be prevented by early detection. Therefore, it is imperative that all women who are sexually active have regular Pap tests.
